Jupiter Jet Review

One big intention I have is to document things I have read.

Last week I read Jupiter Jet Volume 1 written by Jason Inman and Ashley Victoria Robinson  and drawn by Ben Matsuya. This is an all ages graphic novel revolving around a girl and her younger brother who find a jet pack and use it to fight crime.

The book does a good job of setting up the often used dynamic of Jacky being the hero and her brother Chuck being the guy in the chair essentially. This is a dynamic seen in many comics and utilized smoothly in this book to create tension between their relationship as siblings and as partners in heroism.

The artwork is nothing short of gorgeous. The book masters the clear all ages art style while not being too cartoony as a large amount of all ages work can be. It manages to add an element of uniqueness to the book that only increases as the book goes on.

One small note about the book however is it is clear that the writers are still finding their feet with the story. It’s only towards the end with certain revelations and cliff hangers that helps the reader understand the plan and clear direction forward in future installments.

The book is getting a sequel and currently has a kickstarter and the first volume can be found on amazon.
